Every month we dance balfolk to live music from emerging artists! You can expect a cozy evening with social dancing in a more intimate atmosphere (max 35 people). Have you never danced balfolk before? No worries, the basic steps are simple and will be explained beforehand so that you can enjoy yourself on the dance floor right away.
This month we dance to the music of Driftwood and Duo Mobilette. Having had to sell his guitars over 25 years ago, Dieter Van Ouytsel of Driftwood decided to start playing again a couple of years ago diving straight back into his Blues, Rock, Pop, Reggae en Singer-Songwriter background. His new partner Anita, who was equally into Blues, told him her Folkdance hobby usually has live music at balls as well, so Dieter joined her for a listen. Despite some restraint he started folkdancing and spending summers at folkfestivals, where the riff in Spilar’s song “Komt er een end” seduced him to playing along on guitar. This lead to playing a wals after folkdanceclass and playing along with 2 accordeons on a folkdance practicum, after which a classically trained violinist joined to also learn Folkmusic, leading to a second performance on a practicum. There Dieter played his first original folksong. The brand-new duo mobilette with Pepijn De Pauw and Floris Baumüller formed after the folkstage heuvelsven 2024. They got to know each other at an internship with Toon and Pascale from Naragonia. They decided to join forces after a joint performance with Drøn folk group and formed Duo mobilette.
To pay for the location, we invite you to donate any contribution. Leftover money is given to the musicians.
